Residents in the north central New York town of Remsen approved a $9.9 million Capital Improvement Project to renovate, repair and reconstruct school district buildings and bus garage. The proposed scope of work includes site improvements at the district’s junior/high school, elementary school and varsity soccer field. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025.
At the junior/senior high building, the district will reconstruct two student and staff parking lots as well as two driveways. Plans also call for replacing several doors, frames and hardware; reconstructing the chimney and masonry in severely deteriorated spots; improving ventilation and replacing air handling equipment. Additionally, the sound system for the stage and gym will be replaced, bathrooms on either side of the nurse’s office will be renovated, and the gym entrance exterior ramp will be rebuilt.
At the elementary school, the parking lot and driveway will be reconstructed along with the loading dock’s stairs, ramp and steps. The CIP also calls for replacing three hot water cabinet heaters, replacing all carpet and vinyl tiles with luxury vinyl tiles or rubber flooring. The district will also replace emergency and exit lighting and all windows.
The project will replace the bus garage’s HVAC, domestic hot water heater, fire alarm and two inline hot water pumps.
The district will consider addressing drainage, sidewalk, plumbing, flooring, ceiling and HVAC if there are remaining construction funds, school officials said. Additional playground equipment will also be considered.
