Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) officials are asking voters to approve a $649.5 million bond measure that would help build three schools, renovate classrooms and build a performing arts facility. Election day is May 4. Early voting runs from April 22 to April 30.
Proposition A would allocate $597.4 million to build a comprehensive high school in addition to a middle school and an elementary school. The project’s scope includes upgrading safety and security infrastructure, buying buses, repairs and maintenance, acquiring land and reconfiguring Benold Middle School as Frost Elementary.
Plans call for upgrading or replacing HVAC systems at three campuses, replacing playground equipment at Cooper Elementary School, repairing parking lots and replacing risers and sound systems. The scope’s project would include renovating and replacing flooring, lighting and paint at aging campuses.
The district would also renovate and expand fine arts and athletics classrooms at Forbes Middle School, East View High School and Georgetown High School. Plans also include renovating vacated labs and classrooms at the East View and Georgetown high schools.
Proposition C would direct $27.8 to build a performing arts facility at East View High School, maintain the Klett Performing Arts facility at Georgetown High School and replace fine arts concert attire and uniforms.
Proposition B would provide $20.3 million for replacing and upgrading technology infrastructure. This would include installing a phone gateway, data center, firewall and electronics.
