Jeff Walker has announced his retirement as executive administrator of the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), effective March 5, 2024. Bryan McMath will become interim executive administrator as the board searches for a replacement. Walker has served as executive administrator since 2016 and more than 34 years with the TWDB.
McMath joined TWDB in 2018 as governmental relations liaison. He was promoted to his current role as director of governmental relations in 2021. He previously served for almost 15 years at the Texas State Capitol.
Walker is one of TWDB’s longest-serving executive administrators. Under his leadership, he helped implement a state flood program that funded more than $510 million in flood improvement projects across the state.
Walker began his career with TWDB as an agricultural conservation specialist in 1999. He has held numerous roles since then, including financial assessment team lead, director of project development and deputy executive administrator of the Office of Water Supply and Infrastructure.
Outside of TWDB, Walker served as president for the Council of Infrastructure Financing Authorities and as a member of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Financial Advisory Board.
“I tell everyone every chance I get that the Texas Water Development Board is the best agency to lead and the best job I could ever have,” Walker said. “When you enjoy and believe in what you are doing and accomplishing, it is not a job; it is more of a calling. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the state of Texas alongside my TWDB colleagues.”
