Michigan city approves $32.6M capital improvement plan focused on public safety

The project list has grown in Dexter, Michigan, where the city council recently approved a six-year capital improvement plan featuring 74 projects across 10 programs.

The six-year plan outlines a total investment of $32.6 million, reflecting a 13% increase from the prior plan. The first year alone will receive $15.7 million, a 24% jump.

The largest single expenditure is $11 million for public safety facilities in Fiscal Year 2025-2026.

The project list includes municipal buildings, grounds and equipment, transportation systems, utilities, the downtown, parks and recreation and planning and zoning projects.

The list of programs includes:

$12.3 million for four buildings, grounds and equipment projects, including public safety facilities and downtown restrooms.

$8.2 million for seven streets and alleys projects.

$3.5 million for 10 parks and recreation projects, including trail improvements and new playground equipment at Mill Creek Park.

$2.2 million for eight water system projects, including water main replacements, water line investigations and new water wells.

$1.6 million for 12 downtown development authority projects, including streetscape enhancements, parking lot upgrades and updating the downtown master plan.

$1.5 million for three regional cooperation projects, including the Huron River Kayak Launch and wayfinding signage.

$1.4 million for seven sanitary sewer system projects, including the Grand Street sanitary main addition, sanitary rehabilitation and a new HVAC system for the operations building.

$1.2 million for 11 sidewalk improvement projects.

$350,000 for four stormwater projects, including stormwater master planning.

$28,000 for nine planning and zoning projects.
