Voters in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, have approved a $225 million bond issue to make sweeping improvements to facilities throughout the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Results showed 74.9% of voters supported the bond, which will fund a range of projects, including new classroom construction, security enhancements, building renovations and expanded educational spaces.
Planned projects include new elementary schools in Greenwood and Hazel Grove, a sixth-grade addition and facility upgrades at Pleasant Lea Middle School, a secure entryway at Miller Park Center and districtwide improvements to maintenance, safety, accessibility and instructional equipment.
The measure also allocates funds for the development of an Aerospace Academy classroom at the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport in collaboration with the City of Lee’s Summit, upgrades to high school athletic fields and planning for future elementary school needs.
Details of the plans for the bond issue include:
$72 million for district-wide updates that include HVAC projects, doors, windows, roofs and security systems.
$44.5 million to replace Greenwood Elementary School with a new school on a new site.
$44.5 million to replace Hazel Grove Elementary with a new school on a new site.
$32 million to add a new sixth-grade wing to Pleasant Lea Middle School.
$4.5 million for an updated baseball/softball complex.
$4.5 million for new high school soccer and band fields.
$1.2 million for an aerospace academy classroom.
