St. Louis authority approves $54M for renovations at the Dome

The St. Louis Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority (RSA) committed $54 million during its June 11 meeting to make critical renovations to the Dome at America’s Center.

The Dome – which has stood for decades as one of the city’s premier sports centers – has been in critical need of deferred maintenance for years, according to officials. The RSA approved the funding to support essential renovations over the next three to five years, with plans to begin construction in 2026.

An initial $17 million investment will help address immediate concerns over the next year, repairing and modernizing the center’s amenities. These improvements will include rebuilding escalators and elevators, upgrading locker rooms and replacing outdoor advertisements for the Dome along the nearby highway.

Additional work will improve guests’ safety at the Dome, focusing on general enhancements to protect staff and visitors. The project will also include enhanced suites and expanding concessions areas.

The remaining funding will go toward improving the center’s technology and media systems, as well as addressing outdated mechanical infrastructure.

The project’s funding primarily comes from the Rams relocation settlement and preservation funds tagged for maintenance and improvements for the Dome.

While the $54 million will resolve immediate maintenance needs, RSA officials anticipated that more than $150 million in additional financial support is needed to bring the facility to an operational and modernized condition.
