The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is awarding $148.3 million to 73 airport administration projects in 29 U.S. states and territories. The funds come from the Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
The AIG program has $15 billion in funding over five years, with $3 billion available per year. Recipients can use the grants for runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projects, terminals, airport-transit connections and roadway projects.
“These grants help airports across the Nation sustain and improve critical infrastructure to advance the safest, most efficient airport system in the world,” Shannetta R. Griffin, FAA associate administrator for airports, said in a statement.
Notable projects include:
Florida’s Orlando International Airport will receive $61.9 million to expand Terminal C apron and an additional 138,481 square yards to accommodate increased traffic.
Logan International Airport in Boston will receive $22.1 million to upgrade taxiway pavement, lighting systems and improve Land and Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) systems to comply with FAA regulations.
Dallas Love Field will receive $13.6 million to build a 36,000-square-foot aircraft rescue and firefighting building to meet safety codes.
Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport in Warwick will receive $12 million to construct a 60,000-yard cargo apron to accommodate increased traffic.
