The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has approved almost $1.4 billion for transportation projects in northwest Utah County, including two new freeways. The state funding is the largest transportation investment in Utah County since 2012 and is a part of over $2 billion dedicated to the area over the next decade.
Projects will help address increased transportation needs caused by continued population growth in the area. The county, which includes cities such as Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain, is projected to grow faster than Salt Lake, Davis and Weber County combined by 2050.
“This significant investment represents our commitment to building a transportation system that meets the needs of all Utahns,” UDOT Executive Director Carlos Braceras said in a statement. “As we continue to grow as a state, we will work to find transportation solutions to help everyone get to where they want in the way they want.”
Approved projects include:
$554 million for a freeway connection extension in Lehi, which will help make traffic flow more efficient. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
$553 million to extend a road to a highway in Saratoga Springs to reduce congestion and provide alternate routes. Construction is set to begin in 2027.
$459 million to build a freeway with frontage roads in Eagle Mountain. The project will reduce congestion, support transit and improve bike lanes and trails while maintaining access to current developments. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.
