The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is making $515 million in formula grants available to reduce the number and severity of crashes and incidents involving commercial vehicles carrying hazardous materials.
The grants are available through the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program, which supports the safe movement of goods and passengers through safety inspections of large trucks and buses, investigations of safety concerns and audits of new truck carriers and bus companies. The funds also promote outreach and education efforts that help combat human trafficking, distracted driving and other safety concerns.
The program will make up grants of up to $53.5 million to 56 projects nationwide. A Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) will remain open until Sept. 1, 2024.
The program awarded $480 million to every U.S. state and territory earlier this year.
