The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) shared its plans for the 2025 construction season in District 4. The district in northeastern Pennsylvania, comprised of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties, will see 52 new transportation projects this year, totaling over $300 million.
PennDOT Engineering District 4 Executive Richard Roman said 90% of funding would go toward bridges. The other types of projects expected to begin in 2025 include highway improvements on the region’s interstate highways, as well as state roads, safety improvements and infrastructure maintenance. District 4 operates and maintains over 4,000 miles of roads and 2,100 bridges according to Roman.
These new initiatives will join 95 projects throughout the six-county region that will continue this upcoming season. The continuing projects represent more than $946 million in funding bringing the all-in total for active projects across District 4 in 2025 to $1.2 billion.
In the 2024 construction season, District 4 completed improvements on 169 miles of roadway, addressed 305 bridges, finished 490 miles of seal coat, applied 1,287 miles of crack sealing and did 1,143 miles of shoulder cutting. The upcoming new projects for the 2025 season are listed by county below.
