Longview Independent School District (LISD) officials are asking voters to approve five bond propositions totaling $456 million to update existing facilities, build an early childhood center, plus a multi-purpose facility and aquatic center. Early voting runs from April 22 to April 30, with election day May 4.
“These bond propositions focus on safety and security, as well as renovations to aging infrastructure and athletic facilities,” Longview ISD Board President Michael Tubb said in a press release.
Proposition A would allocate $237.7 million to build a Career and Technical Education Center and make renovations to Longview High School and the facility used for early graduation. The funds would also cover districtwide renovations, build a bus barn/transportation facility and install safety and security upgrades in addition to energy-savings equipment.
Proposition C would support a $79.1 million project to build, equip and improve soccer, baseball and tennis facilities. Plans also include building an indoor multipurpose facility for sports, band and general use.
Proposition B would fund a $76.5 project to build a new early childhood center. The district would also renovate the “Playing for Keeps” Early Childhood Center used for special education.
Proposition E would allocate $41.9 million to build an aquatics center.
Proposition D would allocate $21 million to renovate Lobo and Judson Stadiums, which serve as football fields for the district’s high school and middle school.
Longview is located 128 miles east of Dallas. Local voters last approved a bond measure in 2008 to construct elementary and middle school campuses.
