This week’s profile is Ted Ross, Chief Information Officer for the City of Los Angeles.
Public career highlights and education: As CIO for Los Angeles, Ross manages 462 employees that deliver enterprise IT services to 50,000 employees across 45 city departments and digital services to over 4 million residents. He was appointed to the position in 2015 and has over 27 years of private and public sector technology experience.
What I like best about public service: It is inspiring to come to work and make a difference in the lives of 4 million residents, 500,000 businesses and 48 million visitors in the City of Los Angeles.
The best advice I’ve received: There’s no such thing as technology projects – just people projects with technology (you have to fully appreciate and engage the human stakeholders in every IT project).
People might be interested to know that: I live in the heart of urban Los Angeles, but love to get to nature just outside the city.
One thing I wish more people knew about city government: The government workforce is highly diverse and has some of the smartest people I have ever met (private or public sector).
