The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has released $106 million for three aid programs that support improvements to local roads and bridges. This is the second quarterly payment for transportation projects this year.
Over $100 million is allocated for General Transportation aids, which help local jurisdictions fund road maintenance projects. Connecting Highways aid received $4 million to reimburse 116 municipalities for state highway maintenance and traffic control, and Expressway Policing aid received $256,000 for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department.
These aid programs helped improve over 900 miles of road and over 200 bridges in 2023.
“Through these investments, we are ensuring that local governments can pay for much-needed road construction, maintenance, and traffic operations and that Wisconsin’s students, families, workers, and products can get from point A to point B safely and efficiently,” Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement.
By the end of the year, WisDOT will invest more than $536 million in General Transportation aid. The next round of quarterly payments will be released July 1.
