Construction activity in Austin and Central Texas will contribute to what looks to be another banner year for public-sector spending in 2016. Construction spending nationwide for 2015 reached the highest level since the national financial crisis in 2007, and public sector construction figures rose to $1.097 trillion throughout the country. Government contracts for construction projects will available in areas from public and higher education to water and public housing.

Social impact bonds are becoming yet another type of public-private partnership emerging in this country. These “pay for success” contracts are used as coalitions to outsource social programs, with the private partner paid for achieving successful outcomes. They can address issues such as homelessness, prisoner recidivism, community health, etc.
